Why do "they" call it "dog days of summer?" I've always wondered. Why August and not April? Is it because in the heat dogs like to just lie around and so do we? In the heat we just do what's necessary and then find a nice shady tree to sit under?

Hmm, I am thinking every day is a dog day at your house.
:)
Actually, the "dog days of summer" goes back to ancient times and has to do with when Sirius (the dog star) is visible, which is during the summer months. Officially, the dog days span the 20 days before to the 20 days after the conjunction of Sirius with the sun.
